Retroreflectivity Data Collection Services

RoadRunner Retro provides pavement-marking retroreflectivity data collection for state DOTs, road agencies, and contractors across the United States. From at-speed mobile collection to custom compliance reporting, here’s how we help you measure, document, and meet federal retroreflectivity standards.

Mobile Retroreflectivity Data Collection

Our core service. We measure pavement-marking retroreflectivity at highway speed using Road Vista Laserlux® G7 mobile retroreflectometers, so your roads stay open and traffic keeps flowing while we collect. There are no lane closures and no crew exposure in live traffic.

Each run captures continuous, GPS-referenced readings across edge lines, center lines, and lane lines, covering long corridors in a single pass. That makes it practical to assess an entire network rather than a handful of spot samples.

Deliverables come as KML and CSV, keyed to location and direction, ready to drop straight into your GIS or asset-management system.

Handheld Retroreflectivity Measurement

For locations the mobile unit can't reach, or where you need targeted verification, we collect with handheld retroreflectometers. It's the right tool for intersections, ramps, short segments, and QA spot-checks against mobile data.

Handheld collection pairs naturally with a mobile survey: use it to confirm readings in problem areas or to document specific segments in detail.

Custom Reports & Pass/Fail Analysis

We turn raw readings into decision-ready reports. Every segment is scored against the applicable MUTCD retroreflectivity minimums, 50 mcd/m²/lux for longitudinal markings on roads posted 35 mph or higher (where AADT is 6,000 or more), and 100 mcd/m²/lux on roads posted 70 mph or higher, so you can see exactly what passes, what fails, and where to prioritize restriping ahead of the September 5, 2026 compliance deadline.

Reports are tailored to how your agency works: summary rollups for leadership and segment-level detail for maintenance planning.

Data Synthesis & Visualization

Already collecting retroreflectivity data in-house? We process your raw readings, even when the data isn't ours, into clean maps, pass/fail overlays, and reports.

Bring us Laserlux exports or another device's output and we'll standardize, clean, and visualize it, so the numbers you already have become something you can act on and hand to stakeholders.
